A-Si Modules
Solar panels that are cheaper to make than the silicon (c-si) versions that dominate the market today are indeed playing a pivotal role in changing perceptions of solar being an expensive and not competitive to traditional forms of energy.
This technology, namely amorphous silicon modules or a-si, convert sunlight into electricity using little or no silicon, the price of which has been surging until the credit crisis put a dent into the demand. While thin film panels sell for as much as 35% less than their silicon counterparts, they also on average, produce roughly half as much energy per square meter, meaning they require more panels and a larger installation area to generate the same amount of electricity.
In addition to being cheaper to manufacture, a-si panels perform better in low, diffuse light and in blistering hot weather, when crystalline silicon panels can lose as much as 25% of their efficiency.
Due to their lower manufacturing costs and aesthetics, we are Aten Solar strongly feel that a-si modules is the future of solar electricity for budget based customers in hot climates and/or with ample roof and ground area. |
